Greater Lexington Minister's Association Statement Concerning Statue in Lexington, NC Square

 August 12, 2020

To the Mayor Newell Clark, Members of City Council, and City Manager, Terra Greene:

The Greater Lexington Area Ministerial Association (GLAMA) voted unanimously on August 12, 2020 to support the Mayor and City Council of Lexington, NC in their efforts to relocate the Confederate Statue.

The Confederate Statue has become a symbol of division and controversy in our community.  In the interest of reconciliation and unity, we believe it should be moved to a more appropriate historical setting.

Respectfully,

Rev. Dr. Arnetta Beverly, Pastor of St. Stephen UMC, President GLAMA

Rev. Brian Alexander, Pastor of Center Hill Baptist Church

Rev. Elizabeth Horton, Pastor of First Reformed United Church of Christ

Rev. Dr. Ray Howell, Pastor of First Baptist Church, 3nd Ave.

Rev. Dave Kelly, Pastor of Shiloh UMC

Rev. Matt Miller, Pastor of First Lutheran Church

Rev. Eddie Scott, Pastor of Life in the Word Church

Rev. Cheryl Skinner, Co-Pastor of First United Methodist Church

Rev. Allen Suber, Pastor of Friendship Baptist Church
